To Doubt the Self

David dove headlong into his thoughts,
barely believing his musings meant anything,
even though being a professor was perfectly
agreeable akin to his academic beliefs.
His heart, upon hearing of his doubting,
argued against agreeing with any defeat,
proposing letting go of the angst and fearing;
his soul hugged him with longing and acceptance.
