Short Story - The Ego Finds the Light

The Ego finds The Light

So, this Ego walks into a place called The Present and it’s tended and cared for by The Light. The Ego, snugging up their tight britches smugly saunters over to The Light and asks, “Who’s in charge?”

Well, The Light, being The Light, just keeps to One Self, doing nothing, seemingly ignoring The Ego – that’s the Ego’s perspective. The Ego, getting really irritated, like super really irritated, becomes consumed by feelings of unimportance. The Ego feels as if The Light is being rude by treating them, The Ego, as if they were not there. The Ego, pulls at the already too tight britches effected by an overblown sense of importance, and approaches The Light again.

The Ego’s irritation rises, becoming too big for their britches and the seams begin to fail under pressure. Bugged, the Ego convinces itself that The Light is fully to blame and responsible for The Ego’s britches being way to tight! “There will be darkness to pay!” bellows The Ego!

The Ego, reassessing the brilliance of The Light, reminds its Self of the justification for anger and frustration and doubts, because, "After all", The Ego thinks aloud, “Before entering this place called The Present and seeing The Light, my britches fit just right!”

* The past always knows when to throw a dog a bone, but anyway on with the story!

The Ego, all puffed up and full of themselves demands again, with dark indignation “Who’s in charge here?”

The Light, not noticing the Ego, continues to peacefully and lovingly exist. The brightness is now getting to The Ego’s core and sense of importance and in a fit of anger The Ego lashes out and throws a herculean punch into The Light! Pulling back, The Ego feels guilty, a bit, just a small bit, and then screams at the top of their lungs, “Who? Who is in charge here?” With a scream zipper popping loud their britches fell down around their ankles causing The Ego to trip and fall flat on their face!

The Light continued to shine - being in the moment of the Eternal Now and without a flinch nor a care as to what had just happened for nothing had happened in The Light’s existence. All that had happened was between The Ego and it’s own dream.

As The Ego fell to the floor, smashing their face, cracking open a particular place their false armor began to fall away and a light began to shine from inside The Ego space. At first the small shimmer of a glow was barely noticeable within the place called The Present but then, as the glow shined more brightly  - The Light suddenly acknowledged The Light that was pouring forth and said, “There your are brother! We’ve been waiting for you!” Let the party begin!

~ Moral of this story? Let there be Light and don’t wear pants too tight.

Surrender

~ Surrender ~

Surrender your burdens,
Heaviness held tight.

Throw down your fears,
Surrender the fight.

Burst apart completely,
Surrender the lie.

Embrace the Light,
Let the ego die.

Upon Learning Forgiveness

Upon Learning Forgiveness

Forgiveness forges fires within my heart
Expanding my soul into wondrous flight
Grasping for Heaven with severe intention
Dreaming the hostage is now free

Forgiveness thunderously crashes through my soul
Waves embracing the ragged shores of
A life complicated in simplicity

Opportunity how you have knocked at my heart
Drenching my spirit with the wetness of love
Bleeding into passages unknown
Yet known - scary, dark and gloomy

Forgiveness extending, bursting with light
Brightly seeping beyond chasms of thought
Growing hope and nurturing faith
I awaken in a gasp for air beneath waters of despair
Forgiveness pulls me back from the ledge
Opening vision, seeing fantasies of misery

I’m forgiving the world of all its strife
I’m forgiving me of nebulous dreams
Breathing and living the truth of life
Allowing healing, expanding beyond
The littleness that had me bound

Dear Ego

(Photo of and by Maryanne Mesplé, Santa Cruz CA)

Dear Ego

I’m done hiding in shadows
Of creeping around in the night

I’m done with hurts and anguish
From dreaming I’m not right

I’m done with spooky monsters
Misshapen forms that creepily look like me

I’m done with mistrust and misery
Thinking I’m the defective one not you

It’s never you so it must be me

I’m done with trying to please the world
That means everyone

I’m done measuring my soul against yours
And believing you've won

I’m done with pretending
There’s a hologram boogieman
Hungry to make me cry

I’m done believing all that you say
Is truth 'cause you never lie

I’m done feeding you dreams
Believing you care

I’m done following you blindly
Afraid to be free

Now

I’m done being what you call  fearful and guilty
Because now I'm free to be the spirit that is 'me’

This Dream

This Dream

(Original artwork by David Mesple. Title: Ha10-43 - Graphite on gessoed canvas 50" x 72")

I never danced upon a million stars
Yet in my dreams I do
My heart never beat a billion times
Yet in my dreams it does

I am not here in this world
And Never was and yet
I dream of you and I
Of suffering and pain
I dream of our escape

This dream carries us toward the stars
Toward where God exist beyond
Beyond this dream of mine  - of ours
Beyond what can be envisioned

Awakened in the dark by Light
A Light intensely devouring my heart
A Light dissolving all darkened images
Collapsing time and space
Purging my wild imaginings

I am with God and always was
In a place one chooses not to dream
I let go of all that is not real
 Embracing God’s singularity

I cannot suffer nor can I cry
Over nightmarish fantasies
For God’s true gifts to us all
Are love, Peace, Joy and Forgiveness
Throughout Eternity

Touching You

~Touching You~

(original artwork by David Mesplé - thumbnail from Exhaustion of Courage)

My palms ingest your protective fleece
My fingers devour you like Penelope
Welcoming home her hero

These hands remember every hair
Every curve, like a bird in migration
My skin senses where home is

Your skin beckons my grasp
Touchable creaminess covers your body
Like silken spun softness – it’s magic
I feel like Ulysses and your velvety skin

My quest
